Prime Minister Modi will attend the G-20 summit in Brazil on November 18-19, engaging in bilateral talks, then visiting Guyana from November 19-21.

By the end of this week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to travel to nations in the Caribbean, Africa, and South America. This encompasses Guyana, Nigeria, and Brazil. This trip is deemed quite significant in terms of Indian diplomacy, as India has recently focused on enhancing ties with nations in Africa and the Caribbean. Prime Minister Modi’s visit is set to start on November 16 and will finish on November 21.

At the start of this trip, PM Modi will travel to the African nation of Nigeria. He will engage in bilateral discussions with President Bola Tinubu there. Nigeria holds the title of Africa’s biggest economy and is also the most populous nation. As a member of OPEC, it is crucial for India’s energy security, as India imports significant quantities of crude oil from Nigeria.

In addition to this, Nigeria plays a significant role in Indian diplomacy as it belongs to the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC). Following this, PM Modi will participate in the G-20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from November 17 to 19. Last year, India assumed the presidency of the G-20, which PM Modi transferred to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

At this summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to highlight the matters of global technology governance and funding for the adoption of sustainable energy in line with the New Delhi Declaration.

PM Modi might hold bilateral discussions with various international leaders, such as Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Joe Biden.

During the final part of the trip, PM Modi will travel to Guyana from November 19 to 21. In Guyana, Prime Minister Modi will hold discussions with the President of Guyana, Irfan Ali. India has fortified its ties with Guyana in sectors such as defense, energy, and agriculture. Additionally, PM Modi will lead the India-Caribbean (CARICOM) summit, concentrating on trade, investment, and infrastructure initiatives.

Approximately 40 percent of the people in Guyana have Indian ancestry, known as ‘Indo-Guyanese’. Their origins lie in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. President Ali is of Indian descent and attended the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in India last year as the chief guest.
