According to Director General of police Utkal Ranjan Sahoo, the Rajasthan police have filed a first information report (FIR) against unnamed individuals in relation to an interview with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi that was purportedly conducted inside Jaipur Central Jail and broadcast on a private news channel last year.
On the recent orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the FIR was filed in Jaipur. This happened after a special investigative team (SIT) created by Punjab police stated Lawrence Bishnoi was in prison when the interview was done.
“Last year, on March 14 and March 16, two interviews were broadcast. One of the two interviews was recorded from Jaipur Central Jail, according to SIT’s findings. During this time, Bishnoi was incarcerated in relation to a firing case. Our FIR is now on file. Police are required by the high court to provide a copy of the SIT report with all of the evidence by Friday, according to Sahoo.
On February 15 of last year, Lawrence Bishnoi was transported to Jaipur from Bathinda jail in Punjab under a production warrant so that he could be questioned about an extortion case. On March 3, 2023, he was placed in judicial custody in Jaipur jail, and on March 4, he was transported to Bathinda.
Lawrence Bishnoi did not give any interviews while he was in Jaipur, according to Anand Srivastava, the then-Jaipur police commissioner, after the interview aired.
Narayan Kumar Bajiya, the assistant commissioner of police for Gandhi Nagar, stated that the matter will be looked into and that any new information gleaned from the inquiry will be used to guide further steps.
