The seminar planned to take place at Jawaharlal Nehru University over three days has been called off. The seminar planned to focus on the current conflict in West Asia and Iranian, Palestinian, and Lebanese ambassadors were supposed to speak at the event. The JNU’s Center for West Asian Studies was going to arrange the seminar. JNU stated that the seminar had to be cancelled because of unforeseeable circumstances.
The cancellation of the seminar was a result of the potential campus protests and worries expressed by senior faculty members. The university administration feared potential campus protests regarding these issues. Hence, the university has opted to call off it.
The seminar titled How Iran Sees the Recent Developments in West Asia, where Dr. Iraj Elahi was supposed to address, was cancelled on Thursday at 11 am. A few hours prior to the seminar, at 8:09 am, Dr. Seema Baidya, the coordinator of the seminar, emailed students to notify them about the event being canceled.
In the identical email, Baidya also stated that the seminar planned for November 7, focusing on violence in Palestine, has been called off. Adnan Abu al-Hajja, the Palestinian ambassador, was scheduled to speak at the event. Additionally, a conference about the current state in Lebanon, which was set for November 14 and was supposed to feature Dr. Rabiei Naresh, the ambassador of Lebanon, has also been called off.
JNU Professor Mazhar Asif has been designated as the latest Vice Chancellor of Jamia University. Yesterday, the President appointed him on 24 October. His term as the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University will last for 5 years starting from the date he is appointed.
