Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) continues to be the terror hotspot of the country. Security forces on Saturday exchanged heavy fire with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. In the fire, four terrorists were eliminated and two soldiers were martyred in twin encounters.

The twin encounters occurred on Saturday in the Frisal Chinningam and Modegram districts South of J&K.

This exchange of fire has disrupted the calm in the Kulgam district in the last few months. India’s Jammu and Kashmir have been a boiling point on the topic of terrorism. Recently in June, terrorists abused a bus of Hindu pilgrims in Reasi killing 10 and injuring 33 others.

Here’s What The IGP of J&K Said

The exchange of fire between soldiers and terrorists happened after a joint operation was launched by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the army, and the Jammu and Kashmir police. The joint operation was launched based on the information received about the presence of terrorists in Modergam village.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Kashmir, V.K Birdhi visited the encounter site in Jammu and Kashmir. The IGP said, “The encounter has not been concluded yet.” This information given by the IGP hints that more terrorists may be discovered in the region.

The IGP also said that the J&K police and security forces continue to keep track of the movement of terrorists and the killing of these terrorists is a significant achievement for the security forces.

Though terrorism and encounters are not new in the South of Jammu and Kashmir, the region has witnessed a sharp reduction in the number of gunfight activities in past years. In comparison with Jammu, which has witnessed an increase in terrorism and encounters in the past years, Kashmir – especially the South region has experienced peace.

The recent terrorist attack in Reasi in June is an example of the increase in terrorist activities in Jammu. At the hands of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, many lives have been lost. Terrorism in J&K has been a hot topic for parties and leaders of India and around the world.

It’s no secret that the J&K region is a hotbed of terrorism. The insurgence in terrorist activities indicates that something needs to be done for there to be peace in the region. Terrorists can no longer be allowed to spread fear and terror in the hearts and minds of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The people have had enough of terrorism already.
