A renowned lyricist from Mumbai, Javed Akhtar was cleared of defamation charges by the court. A defamation lawsuit was filed by a lawyer against Javed Akhtar. The attorney claimed in his filing that Javed Akhtar attempted to tarnish the reputation of the RSS.
As per Bar-Bench report, advocate Santosh Dubey, who accused Akhtar of defaming RSS, has withdrawn the case after resolving the issue with the lyricist through mediation. Afterwards, the court concluded the case and cleared Javed Akhtar of all charges.
In a judgment issued on November 8, Mulund Judicial Magistrate (First Class) SD Chakkar documented a ruling withdrawing the complaint lodged by Dubey in October 2021.
The court mentioned that the complaint had been retracted. Based on how it is discarded. Javed Akhtar, who was accused, has been found not guilty of the crime under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. Therefore, the case is resolved.
The accuser claimed that Javed Akhtar had compared the RSS to the Taliban on television, citing the radical group’s presence in Afghanistan.
Dubey, an RSS follower, lodged a complaint against Akhtar for defamation as per sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code. The accusation stated that the songwriter intentionally made remarks that harmed the reputation of the RSS.
Nevertheless, in a major development, Santosh Dubey informed the court that the issue had been resolved through mediation and he no longer wanted to pursue the defamation charges. After that, Magistrate Chakkar cleared Akhtar of all charges and closed the case.
