Cyclone 'Dana' forming over Bay of Bengal soon.

In West Bengal, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned that cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ might escalate into a severe condition in several districts amidst the threat of cyclone and storm. The storm is expected to move from the Odisha coast to the West Bengal coast overnight on October 24 and into the morning of October 25. At this moment, the wind can reach speeds between 100 and 120 kilometers per hour.

Based on the report from the Meteorological Department, a cyclone is developing in the South Andaman Sea this Sunday. A cyclone is expected to form over the Bay of Bengal by Tuesday. Meteorologists forecasted that it will hit the Odisha coast on the night of October 24. It was also mentioned by the Meteorological Department that there is a possibility of a severe calamity taking place in Bengal before the upcoming grand Kali Puja celebration in the region.

In relation to this, the East Medinipur district authorities in Bengal have conducted a meeting with all the BDOs and SDOs from coastal areas, where relief supplies have been stored at various locations. Monitoring will be conducted in coastal regions. Additionally, fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing further into the deep sea to prevent any mishaps.

Tomorrow, there will be an update on whether tourists will face restrictions due to the weather in Digha, a significant tourist spot in the state. According to Purnendu Maji, District Magistrate of East Medinipur, the district administration is fully prepared to handle the cyclone from every direction.

In addition to Odisha and West Bengal, rain is expected in several districts of neighboring Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand during this period. On October 23, the Meteorological Department has forecasted a high chance of heavy rainfall in the coastal regions of West Bengal, East Medinipur, West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas.

The department announced that there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 24 and 25, with extremely heavy rainfall in certain areas of East Medinipur, West Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, and Jhargram. The Meteorological Department also mentioned that Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Purulia, and Bankura districts will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 24 and 25.
