Manipur Congress leaders have conveyed their dissatisfaction with a social media post by senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram. The leaders have penned a letter to the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge, urging him to address the issue regarding P. Chidambaram. The senior Congress leader commented on the ongoing tension in Manipur, stating that Meitei, Kuki-Jo and Naga can coexist in the state if they are given regional autonomy.

He promoted the idea of regional self-government in his post. Following the post, Okram Ibobi Singh, a Manipur Congress leader and former Chief Minister, expressed his opposition and condemnation towards it. As a result of the demonstration, P. Chidambaram was required to remove his post. However, the leaders’ anger persisted. They have called for measures to be taken against Chidambaram.

Manipur Congress leaders penned a letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, expressing full disapproval of P. Chidambaram’s remarks on the Manipur issue. In addition, the Congress leaders restated their party’s dedication to the state’s unity and integrity and urged swift action against former Finance Minister P Chidambaram. The letter mentioned that the language and sentiments from the senior Congress leader were highly unsuitable considering the current atmosphere of growing tension, public sorrow, and political sensitivity in the state.

The state Congress organized a meeting on Tuesday and then sent the letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge. Congress Legislature members, Congress Working Committee members, and former state presidents of the party were in attendance, in addition to others. Regarding this issue, ex Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh mentions that upon viewing P. Chidambaram’s statement, he had a conversation with party leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
