Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and the grandson of Bharat Ratna Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Justice (Retd) Giridhar Malviya, has died. He took his final breath at approximately 11 am on Monday, November 18th, in Prayagraj at the age of 92. He suffered from an illness for a period of time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown sorrow about his death and also offered condolences to the family.

I had the honor of meeting him face to face on multiple occasions. He was the candidate from my parliamentary constituency of Varanasi in both 2014 and 2019, a memory that will always stay with me. He was in a critical state for a while. Because of this, he attended the BHU convocation in a wheelchair. He is widely recognized in both the legal and academic fields. He became a judge of Allahabad High Court in 1988. Following his retirement, he became the Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University in the year 2018. Giridhar Malviya always showed commitment towards keeping Ganga clean and protected. He played a significant role as the head of the committee responsible for creating the Ganga Act.
Giridhar Malviya was also the one who nominated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Giridhar Malviya suggested that Narendra Modi should run for office in Varanasi. He was actively involved in the Ganga cleaning campaign as the president of Ganga Mahasabha. Prayagraj was filled with mourning following his death.
