Following reports that Akshay Shinde opened fire on officers, the Thane police have filed a case of attempted murder against him as well as a case of accidental death, according to officials on Tuesday. Shinde is accused of sexual assault in Badlapur.

When the shooting incident occurred that led to Akshay Shinde’s death, he was being transported from Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai to Badlapur in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Monday night in relation to a formal complaint filed against him on behalf of his ex-wife, according to police previously.

At a Badlapur school, Akshay Shinde, 24, was charged with sexually abusing two young girls.

Five days after it was claimed that Akshay Shinde, a contractual sweeper at the Badlapur school, had sexually harassed two girls in the school’s restroom, he was taken into custody on August 17.

He was shot and murdered on Monday night in Thane near the Mumbra bypass after he allegedly stole a police officer’s gun while being driven in a police car as part of an investigation into a case that was filed against him after his ex-wife complained, an official had earlier stated.

According to the official, after he shot and hurt API Nilesh More, a second police escort team member opened fire on him. Medical professionals at the Kalwa Civic Hospital subsequently pronounced him dead.

According to a Thane police official who spoke with media after the incident, Akshay Shinde has been charged with both attempted murder and accidental death at the Mumbra police station.

He claimed that Akshay Shinde attempted to rob police officers of their lives by stealing a pistol. According to the official, another instance of accidental death has been reported since Akshay Shinde passed away during police activity. The Thane police are looking into both cases, he continued.
