In relation to a rape case, Kerala Police issued a lookout notice against Malayalam actor Siddique on Thursday, according to ANI. On September 26, the warning was sent to all state police chiefs and district police heads in Kerala.
After his appeal for anticipatory relief was denied by the Kerala High Court on September 24, Siddique fled the country and is now the target of severe charges in a rape case.
The Kerala government’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) is looking into the matter right now.
The Malayalam actor Siddique was charged with rape and criminal intimidation by the museum police in Thiruvananthapuram on August 27. A youthful performer brought legal action against Siddique. Siddique, the former general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), has filed a countercomplaint against the victim and vehemently refuted the allegations. But a thorough court order is still pending.
This occurrence takes place in the context of the #MeToo movement, which has shaken the Malayalam cinema industry and exposed the accounts of multiple victims who have accused and denounced various forms of sexual abuse. The actor resigned from his role with AMMA following the emergence of rape claims against him. The 17-member executive committee of AMMA resigned as a result.
Serious accusations were made by a number of female actors against well-known Malayalam film industry players. Actors Mukesh, Jayasurya, Edavela Babu, and director Ranjith are among those on the list of performers accused of sexual abuse.
The issue was initially brought to light in a report by the Justice Hema Committee, which sparked accusations against prominent members of the business. The Committee report, which was made public on August 19, included alarming details of systematic abuse, exploitation, and harassment of women in the sector.
According to the survey, roughly ten to fifteen men who work as producers, directors, and actors dominate and exercise control over the Malayalam cinema business.
