The Booker Prize for fiction released a shortlist on Monday, which included the longest ever number of women authors. The number broke its record of 55 years. Five women and one man are in the running for the stature literary prize, out of other 13 writers. They include writers from several countries like Australia, the Netherlands, Britain, Canada and the US.


The Booker Prize ceremony will take place on November 12. They also introduced their first Dutch author. Not only prize, the shortlisted contestants will be provided with £2,500 meanwhile the winner will get £50,000.


English pottery-maker, author and chair of the judges Edmund de Waal said the shortlist comprised of “books that made us want to keep on reading, to ring up friends and tell them about them, novels that inspired us to write, to score music, and even – in my case to go back to wheel and make pots”.

The Booker Prize is a prestigious literary award which honors remarkable fiction work. It was Established in 1969, and is Judged by a panel of experts, the prize promotes literary excellence while shaping the literary landscape and launching authors’ careers globally.
