Cannes guard accused of racism towards K-pop idol YoonA following Kelly Rowland and Massiel Taveras incidents

Cannes recently found itself embroiled in controversy when allegations of racist behaviour by a security guard surfaced. The guard, who had previously been accused of similar conduct, reportedly targeted K-pop star YoonA with discriminatory actions. This incident came to light shortly after a public dispute involving Kelly Rowland and was further highlighted by an altercation involving Dominican actress Massiel Taveras. According to reports, the guard obstructed YoonA’s opportunity to pose for photographs on the red carpet. This action has led many to believe the guard harbours a bias against certain women of colour.

YoonA Faces Obstruction on Cannes Red Carpet

YoonA, a member of Girl Generation, graced the 77th Cannes Film Festival in Paris in a stunning pink dress, capturing attention with her elegance. Her appearance became a subject of discussion after a video surfaced following an altercation between Kelly Rowland and a security guard at the event. Rowland later discussed the incident, suggesting it might have been racially motivated. A similar video of YoonA, looking visibly upset by the hurried actions of a female staff member further fueled the conversation. Despite trying to pose on the Cannes stairs, YoonA was quickly ushered away while other American actors were allowed more time.

Dominican actress Massiel Taveras also experienced friction with the same security guard while walking on the red carpet in a white gown adorned with an image of Christ. The encounter escalated into a heated argument when the guard attempted to prevent Taveras from arranging her gown for photos. After struggling to assert herself, Taveras managed to bypass the guard, who was insistent on rushing her.
