Tumbbad (2018), initially a box office failure, has now turned into a sensation within the movie business. Following its re-release on the 13th of September, the movie surpassed even new films in terms of box office earnings and attendance. The movie made Rs 22.63 crores in just 10 days, on top of its initial Rs 12 crore earnings, for a total of Rs 34 crores by its second Monday. The movie is predicted to keep going strong and could even hit a massive Rs 40 crores, making profits several times greater than its budget.
Tumbbad surpassed Ghilli on Monday to become the top-grossing re-release in India since 2000. Ghilli made 26.50 crores, while Tumbbad exceeded it with 26.70 crores. Having surpassed re-releases Sholay 3D and Laila Majnu in earnings, it now sits at the number one position.
Having exceeded its budget by 140%, Tumbbad is now on track to expand globally, with negotiations for international theatrical rights underway. Its popularity demonstrated that it was ahead of its time, since viewers were not prepared for its distinctive style in 2018.
Prior to its re-release, Sohum Shah expressed his enthusiasm for the sequel by stating to IANS, “Tumbbad has been a unique journey and a passion project for us. The ongoing love and support it receives only strengthens our belief that content is key at Sohum Shah Films.” We aim to extend the cinematic boundaries with Tumbbad 2. Tumbbad 2 will further delve into the world we have built, with larger surprises and a more thorough examination of the consequences when greed is boundless.
