The sci-fi dystopian movie “Kalki 2898 AD,” featuring Prabhas, has quickly become a sensation, marking its position as the second highest-grossing Hindi movie of 2024 just within a week of its release.

The movie, having surpassed the impressive Rs 700 crore benchmark globally, outshone the lifetime total of “Salaar.”

In its debut week, “Kalki 2898 AD” has not only managed to captivate audiences but also achieve remarkable financial success.

With an opening day collection of Rs 95.3 crore nett in India and maintaining a steady performance, the film racked up Rs 23.2 crore on its seventh day.

Movie earnings exhibit Stability

Despite a 75 percent drop since its launch, the movie’s earnings exhibit stability, especially post the initial weekend, showing a relatively minor decrease of 14.23 percent from day six to seven. This stellar performance brings the domestic nett total to Rs 393.4 crore, according to Sacnilk, a well-known industry analyst.

The seventh day witnessed a 31.38 percent total occupancy for the movie’s Telugu version across theaters, showcasing director Nag Ashwin’s widespread appeal.

Multi-lingual Movie

Released in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, the film’s first-week earnings in India for the Telugu version stood at Rs 202.8 crore, while the Hindi version contributed Rs 152.5 crore.

This elevated “Kalki 2898 AD” as the year’s runner-up in the Hindi market, trailing behind “Fighter,” which amassed Rs 199.45 crore, as reported by Bollywood Hungama.

The movie also edged past Ajay Devgn’s “Shaitaan” and its Rs 149.49 crore nett, hinting at a potentially record-breaking run given the challenges Hindi films face at the box office in 2024.

Globally, “Kalki 2898 AD” has emerged as 2024’s most successful Indian film, amassing Rs 700 crore within six days, as announced by Vyjayanthi Movies, the production company behind the film.

While “Dangal” remains the top global Indian film with a collection of Rs 2070 crore, followed by “Baahubali 2” and “RRR” with Rs 1788 crore and Rs 1230 crore respectively, “Kalki 2898 AD” is on its way to potentially joining the acclaimed Rs 1000 crore club.

With its seventh-day global collections, the movie is set to surpass “Shankar’s 2.0” and its Rs 744.78 crore achievement in 2018, having already outdone “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire.”

The star-studded cast includes Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, with special appearances by Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverakonda, Mrunal Thakur, and director SS Rajamouli, contributing to the film’s massive appeal and success.
