Rang De Basanti, starring Aamir Khan, is considered a cult classic film. The movie is famous not just for its songs but also its plot. Fans continue to enjoy watching it. Did you know that Aamir Khan’s story led to a different ending for Rang De Basanti’s climax?

During a discussion with Cinemaanreal, Aamir Khan is observed discussing the ending of the movie. According to him, the original climax involved assassinating the defense minister, attempting to flee the city, and each member of the group getting shot in various locations. I inquired from Mehra, ‘I adore your screenplay (but) the conclusion confuses me as to why they are fleeing. Are they sensing that they have committed a mistake? He asked, “Yeah, why are they running?”

When talking about suggesting a different ending for the movie, Aamir explains, “The character of Bhagat Singh is present throughout the film…” Bhagat Singh did not flee. He willingly chose to get arrested and then spoke his mind. They also should not flee. I had penned this tale several years back. In my adaptation there were two men… it got to a point where they had to interact with the community.

In 2006, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directed the film Rang De Basanti. The cast includes Aamir Khan, Siddharth, R. Madhavan, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor, Waheeda Rehman and British actress Alice Patten.

The narrative followed the journey of five Indian freedom fighters during the country’s fight for independence, as seen through the eyes of a British film student who inspires five young men with patriotic feelings while filming her movie.

During its release, Rang De Basanti broke all box office records and became the most successful film ever. Additionally, the film starring Aamir Khan won the esteemed National Film Award for Best Popular Film and was also nominated for the BAFTA awards.
