CBI on RG Kar case

Some of the records related to the rape and killing of a junior doctor at RG Kar Medical College, according to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), were allegedly “falsely created” and “altered” at the Tala police station in Kolkata. A special court in Kolkata was informed by the investigation agency that the police station’s CCTV footage had also been taken.

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) will be receiving the confiscated CCTV material from the Tala police station for additional analysis, the CBI informed the court.

After questioning former principal of the medical college Sandip Ghosh and officer in charge of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mondal, the CBI told the court that “new/additional” facts surfaced in its investigation demonstrating that “some false records pertaining to the instant case were created/altered in PS Tala.”

In addition, on Wednesday, following the conclusion of their remand, the investigation agency presented Mondal and Ghosh to the court. The judicial custody of the special court has been extended till September 30.

The CBI said that the search of the principal accused Sanjay Roy’s clothing and possessions was “unnecessarily delayed by two days” and that this delay may have produced substantial evidence against Roy.

The following day after the horrific event, Sanjay Roy, the key suspect, was taken into custody since “his role in the commission of crime had already emerged”. Currently, the agency is looking into any potential criminal conspiracy involving Roy, Ghosh, and Mondal.

A trainee physician’s body was discovered in the lecture hall of the RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on August 9. The postmortem report revealed that the physician had been sexually assaulted and killed.
