Abhishek Banerjee’s office from Trinamool Congress filed a police complaint against a Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim’s official for allegedly using the TMC MP’s name to extort money from contractors.

Officials at Abhishek Banerjee’s office stated that the complaint against Kalicharan Banerjee, the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in Hakim’s office, was lodged at the Shakespeare Sarani Police Station on Thursday evening by Ayan Ghosh Dostidar, an employee at Banerjee’s office.

The letter, sent on September 26, claims that the OSD has been informing individuals that he has a strong connection to Banerjee and has the ability to effectively handle situations. It is clear what methods the accused person uses. He has been meeting individuals and falsely presenting himself as a trusted associate of the Honorable MP/representative in order to deceive them and scam them out of their money, all for his own financial benefit. The individual has given the impression of being a powerful figure and has falsely claimed a close connection with Abhishek Banerjee.

Through this action, he has convinced numerous individuals to place their trust and confidence in him, ultimately gaining their trust through deceptive pledges and guarantees. As payment, he has been illicitly gathering large amounts of money from unsuspecting people by guaranteeing he will arrange favours for them through Abhishek Banerjee’s connections. Nevertheless, he has failed to keep any of his commitments as he has no association with Abhishek Banerjee and all those affected have been left without any remedy for the wrongdoings committed by him.

Hakim said that the OSD has not responded yet, and he thinks they should have informed him. I was able to carry out an investigation. I have no knowledge about this.

Kunal Ghosh, a leader of TMC, mentioned that while the complainants may possess evidence, the party has chosen not to make any remarks on the matter. He also noted that the issue has caused a stir within the party. At the same time, Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari described the official as “corrupt”. There has not been a FIR lodged in the case so far.
