Himachal Pradesh Minister Vikramaditya Singh caused controversy by declaring that every street vendor in Shimla is required to display their name, photo, and ID based on their ID cards, but the Himachal government clarified that no final ruling had been reached on the matter.

One day after Minister Vikramaditya Singh created a stir by stating that all street vendors in Shimla , Himachal must show their name, photo, and ID as per their ID cards, the Himachal government clarified on Thursday that no decision had been made regarding displaying nameplates by the vendors.

A government representative mentioned that a variety of feedback has been gathered from various groups in relation to the street vendor’s policy.

He mentioned that the government, up to now, has not made any choice to require vendors to show nameplates or ID on their stalls. The government is dedicated to resolving the issues faced by street vendors and will thoroughly review all proposals before making a decision.

The spokesperson mentioned that a committee has already been formed to deal with the issue, with members from both Congress and BJP. The chair of the committee was held by Harshwardhan Chauhan, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, with Anirudh Singh, the Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Vikramaditya Singh, the Public Works Minister, and MLAs Anil Sharma, Satpal Satti, Randhir Sharma, and Harish Janartha as members.

The committee will consider input from different stakeholders before presenting its suggestions to the state government. He mentioned that after receiving their detailed recommendations, the Cabinet will carefully assess them before reaching any final conclusions on the issue.

Minister Vikramaditya Singh stated on Wednesday that all street vendors, particularly those selling food items, must show their identification. He stated that this has been accomplished in UP, and we will also implement it in Shimla. He stated that food stalls are selling many different types of food such as momos and noodles, therefore the Food and Civil Supplies Department will make sure that the food sold is clean and safe to eat. Furthermore, the information displayed will serve as confirmation that vendors possess a license.
