The man, Akshat Garg, who was driving a Mahindra XUV 3XO in Gurugram is said to have informed the police that he was “trying to save time” by driving on the incorrect side of the Golf Course Road in Gurugram’s DLF Phase II. The driver then slammed the car into a bike. The incident was recorded by a GoPro put on his friend’s helmet, and video showed the 22-year-old biker’s death following a front-on collision with the car.

The man who is 22-year-old Dwarka resident, named Akshat Garg was employed by a private corporation. The collision happened last Sunday while he was riding with several pals. After being knocked from the bike, the victim slid behind the vehicle. He was sent to the hospital immediately, but he did not make it.

“My son has gone, but he (the accused) slept peacefully that night,” Akshat’s mother said to NDTV. “Why was he released on bail?” she asked. “I want my son to get justice. My son was killed by an evildoer.”

According to ACP DLF Gurugram Vikas Kaushik who stated on ANI, “The Gurugram police stands with the victim’s family. We will take whatever action is needed under the law.”

Mr Kaushik told ANI, “We are investigating the cause,” in response to the senior police officer’s claim that the accused drove on the wrong side “to save time.” Still, he asserted that “no point can justify driving on the wrong side.”

Police are facing criticism for allegedly providing “special treatment” to those who have been accused. Mr. Kaushik refuted these assertions, saying “There is no question of giving special treatment or concession to anyone at any moment, as in such cases, we investigate through SOPs, no special treatment or concession has been given to anyone.”

“If the family still feels some suspicion, we request them to meet us and we will tell them everything, will show the files and tell them about the procedures to satisfy that an independent investigation is being conducted,” he further added.
