An underage girl from Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh, received a new chance at life after a Dr. Malikendra Patel managed to extract a pin stuck in her stomach without the need for surgery. As per her family, Safia Pathan, the child, had unintentionally ingested a sharp pin a few days prior, resulting in intense stomach discomfort. The family asked multiple doctors for assistance and tested different home treatments, but with no success.

The family first attempted solutions like providing her with bananas and administering medications to relieve the stomach. Nevertheless, since the pin did not go through, they chose to bring Safia to a physician.

Family members said that several doctors tried to use medication to extract the pin, but their efforts were not successful. The doctors they sought advice from recommended that the pin could solely be extracted via surgery.

Nevertheless, Dr. Malikendra Patel was able to successfully extract the pin during the endoscopy procedure at the Ipsa Endoscopy Center. The pin was stuck in the pylorus, with just the top pearl showing. The girl was rendered unconscious and the item was effectively removed using endoscopy. Dr Patel mentioned that extra caution was necessary to avoid additional harm due to the sharpness of the pin.

The girl’s family informed Local18 that despite many unsuccessful efforts, they were surprised when the doctor in Khandwa successfully extracted the pin without needing surgery. The family expressed disbelief in anyone’s ability to do this here.

In an interview with Local18, Dr Patel described how a nine-year-old girl visited him with stomach pain and showed him 4-5 X-rays, where a safety pin was easily noticeable. She was checked into our hospital and I suggested an endoscopy. We successfully extracted the 4-cm pin using the telescope technique, avoiding the need for surgery. Extreme care was necessary because of the pin’s sharpness.
