With the Assembly elections approaching, Delhi BJP leaders have intensified their slum expansion campaign, which began five months ago, by sleeping overnight in slums and JJ clusters to boost the party’s vote base among the lower middle class.
Senior BJP leaders, including seven Delhi MPs, and activists will spend the night in various slums and JJ clusters to connect with people as part of the campaign. So far, party leaders have carried out such campaigns in 1,194 slum clusters throughout the city.
“The main goal of this campaign is to interact with the slum dwellers and learn about possible solutions (to their problems) directly from them,” said Vishnu Mittal, the state general secretary and campaign coordinator, according to a party release. Under the Slums Expansion campaigns, the party hired slum expanders and ghetto caretakers to lead the push across town.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, who participated in several overnight jhuggi stays, stated, “The BJP is the first party whose leaders have been directly communicating via citizens, particularly the youth, in all the jhuggi collections in Delhi for the past five months to understand their problems and solutions.” The party has gained insight into the lives and issues of residents in jhuggi clusters thanks to our personnel.”
If the BJP wins power in Delhi, he promises to make their life easier by providing utilities like timely water, electricity, and food through the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). According to the statement, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri stated that the BJP believes in enhancing rather than eliminating the jhuggi clusters.
“Our upcoming government is going to establish a separate department to ensure cleanliness in the jhuggi settlements,” stated Mr. Singh. Dushyant Gautam, the BJP’s national general secretary, expressed confidence that the party would form the next administration in Delhi.
