Following a brief exchange of fire, Delhi Police detained the third Gogi gang member in connection with the November 4 shootings outside two shops in the capital’s Nangloi and Alipur areas on Wednesday, according to officials.
The accused, Ram Nivas nicknamed Mogli, 30, was shot in the left leg after reportedly opening fire on the Special Cell (Northern Range) team that was waiting for him near Shahbad Dairy.
On November 4, three bike-borne men opened fire outside the storefronts of two property dealers in Nangloi and Alipur, purportedly on orders from criminals Deepak Boxer, Yogesh Tunda, and Ankesh Lakra, who currently lead the Gogi gang. “Two pistols and a stolen bike were found from Mogli. “More investigation is underway,” said Amit Kaushik, the deputy chief of Police, Special Cell (NR/TYR).
“Personnel were deployed late yesterday night to wait for Mogli. Around 7 a.m., a bike was discovered on the Sadab Dairy Road and directed to a halt. However, Mogli refused to surrender & instead opened fire on the crew,” the police officer stated.
The accused was transported to the Krishna Valmiki Hospital in Rohini.
Mogli, a native of It Khurd village in Narela, has been affiliated with the Jitender Mann Gogi gang for the last eight years and has ten charges lodged against him for robbery, attempted murder, and violating the Arms Act, according to an official. In connection with the event, the Crime Branch previously detained a sniper and a youngster who was his accomplice, both of whom were members of the infamous Gogi gang.
A police official stated that they found a note outside the Nangloi shop revealing the name of the Jitender Gogi gang and its slain member, Kuldeep Fajja. The other two suspects, Akash Rathore, 18, and his accomplice, a 17-year-old, were arrested a day after the shootings. According to investigators, Rathore revealed that they were acting on orders from Tunda and his accomplice Monty Maan.
