The Supreme Court proposed on Friday the formation of an expert committee and stated that permission given for tree felling in Delhi would not be executed until the panel approved it. “We are going to pass an order stating that any license granted for tree felling will not be carried out unless the committee approves it. It shall be subject to the recommendations of the committee,” a bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih stated the panel approved it.
A bench of Justices Ashok S Oka and Augustinian George Masih stated that the court would also establish related criteria. The bench was hearing a case seeking to prevent the Delhi administration from authorizing tree felling without the Supreme Court’s consent.
“We want to know how the tree authority operates,” the bench stated at the outset. Additional counsel Aishwarya Bhati, representing the tree authority, stated that an affidavit was filed in the case.
