The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) announced on Thursday a Rs 2.4 crore cash allocation to 12 zones in the city to improve air quality in the national capital. This action comes as Delhi-NCR’s air quality has improved slightly due to squally winds.

The MCD has been actively combating the city’s pollution, which is primarily caused by dust and stubble burning in adjacent states. Each zone will receive Rs 20 lakh to improve dust control measures, such as activating sprinklers and hiring the requisite personnel.

Anti-smog guns and dust suppressants will be utilized more effectively, and construction and demolition debris will be closely monitored. Zonal Deputy Commissioners are responsible for overseeing debris collection and enforcing dust control on construction sites.

Daily inspections will verify compliance, and PWD roadways will be cleaned weekly to reduce dust. The MCD is committed to following the Commission for Air Quality Management’s directives and adopting all viable air pollution-reduction measures.

Mechanical road sweeping (MRS) trucks and the installation of revolving smog guns on high-rise buildings were among the ideas made at a meeting hosted by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena earlier on Thursday. Amid declining air quality in the national capital, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the importance of reducing domestic sources of air pollution.

After a meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the Lieutenant Governor asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to collect building
