Gangster Kapil Sangwan, also known as Nandu, was initially brought to the attention of authorities in 2014. In July of that year, Sangwan and his friends opened fire on a man called Naresh Kumar at his home in Khaira village in Delhi’s Chhawla district. He went on to demand Rs 30 lakh in extortion from Kumar’s nephew Lalit and was arrested. The FIR for the case was filed at the Chhawla police station.
Sangwan was born in 1991 in Najafgarh’s Nanda Enclave. According to his police dossier, he has 17 criminal complaints against him, the majority of which involve extortion and fire. Sangwan is back in the spotlight following the arrest of AAP MLA Naresh Balyan. Before his detention, the BJP broadcast an audio tape of a supposed discussion between him and Sangwan.
According to the Crime Branch, which last arrested Sangwan in 2016 in another extortion case filed at Chhawla police station, the thug is now operating from London.
Although Sangwan was granted freedom on parole in 2017, his older brother Bhu Prakash, who was then on bail at the time in an assault case, attended a “welcome back” party for Vijay at a farmhouse in South Delhi, according to authorities. However, before they could arrive at the location, the Crime Branch stormed it and arrested some of their colleagues.
However, Sangwan would never be seen again.
Sangwan, who hailed from Mahendragarh in Haryana, attended KV Vikapsuri and KV Jharoda Kalan, according to authorities. He graduated in hotel management from Amity University in Manesar.
According to Crime Branch detectives, Sangwan’s regular tactic was to make extortion calls to businesses before opening fire at their homes or offices.
They further stated that he is accused of murdering Haryana politician Nafe Singh Rathee. His identity has also been linked to the assassination of BJP politician Surendra Matiala, who was murdered last year in Bindapur, Delhi.
