On Monday, the first day of the deployment of GRAP-IV measures to combat pollution in the Capital, the Delhi Traffic Police issued 4,474 challans to overage cars and those without Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUCC).

“The Delhi Traffic Police increased its enforcement efforts in response to deteriorating pollution conditions in the NCR with the implementation of GRAP-IV,” said Additional CP (Traffic HQ) Satyaveer Singh Katara. He also stated that traffic workers work effortlessly on the ground even in such high AQI levels.

“Since November 15, when GRAP-III was implemented, 14,068 PUCC challans have been issued, and 448 overage or end-of-life (ELV) petrol and diesel vehicles have been impounded,” stated Ajay Chaudhary, Special CP (Traffic). Approximately 4,852 automobiles were issued challans for not having a PUC.

On Monday, challans were levied in two Delhi zones. Zone 1 encompassed the Central, Northern, and Eastern Ranges, and 2,228 challans were issued. Zone 2, which covers the New Delhi, Southern, and Western ranges, reported 2,246 violations, according to Shashank Jaiswal, DCP (Traffic HQ).

In Zone 2, 2,246 vehicles were found to be non-compliant with environmental regulations, and challans were issued for the lack of valid PUC certificates. In addition, 77 overage automobiles were penalized and scrapped. The New Delhi Range, which includes the districts of New Delhi and Southwest Delhi, alone had 307 PUCC-related breaches, one of which was ELV.

The Southern Range, which covers South and Southeast districts, reported 915 challans for PUCC noncompliance, while the Western Range recorded 1,024 breaches. (West, Outer, and Dwarka Districts). Overage impounded automobiles from the southern and western ranges total 37 and 39, respectively.

654 challans were issued in the Northern Range of Zone 1, which includes Rohini, Outer North, and Northwest Delhi, 30 of which were for overage cars. Similarly, the central region Range (North and Central Delhi) witnessed 794 challans, 18 of which targeted older automobiles. In the Eastern Range (East, Northeast, and Shahdara), 780 challans were issued, 30 of which were for overage cars.
