Many areas in Delhi-NCR have reported increased pollution levels ahead of Diwali.

Ahead of Diwali, a poll done in Delhi-NCR found that 18% of respondents want to set off firecrackers during the festival of lights, while 55% do not. According to a LocalCircles survey with a sample size of 10,526 people, “Among those who responded to the query, 55% said they will not burn firecrackers because they cause pollution, 19% said they would like to burn crackers, and 9% said they will burn crackers.”

“Nine percent of respondents stated they would burn crackers and knew how and where to get them, whereas 8% did not provide a clear response. To summarize, 18% of Delhi-NCR families surveyed plan to burn crackers during Diwali.”

According to the report, 68% of the 10,526 respondents were men, with the remaining 32% being women. According to the poll, some residents ignored the government’s firecracker recommendations, as indicated by the widespread use of crackers during the Karva Chauth celebrations on October 20.

“This indicates that plenty of individuals maintain their firecrackers despite the ongoing ban on its manufacture, storage, exchange, and use in Delhi and NCR through January 1, 2025,” according to the investigation. Many regions in Delhi-NCR are reporting air quality indices (AQI) levels that surpass 350, indicating “severe”. As Diwali approaches, residents are increasingly discussing the effectiveness of the ban and enforcement tactics, according to the survey.
