With over 100 cases reported this month, Delhi has had the greatest number of malaria incidences in the last five years. The number of dengue cases is also the highest, excluding the previous year’s tally.
This year, there have been 587 instances of malaria in the capital. Of them, 157 instances were reported in October. In contrast, only 37 cases were reported in October of last year, 75 in 2022, 47 in 2021, and 34 in 2020. An additional 152 cases have been recorded with incorrect or partial addresses.
The West Zone, which has reported 77 cases, has been hit the worst this year. Vector-borne diseases are on the rise in Delhi, with 2,587 dengue cases and 83 chikungunya cases documented through October 11 of this year.
957 cases of dengue fever were reported this month. There have also been 1,039 reports of incomplete or incorrect addresses. MCD has identified three dengue-related deaths thus far. The Najafgarh Zone is the worst hit, with 385 cases.
Of the 83 chikungunya cases reported thus far, 14 were registered in the last week. Twenty-eight instances were reported in October, surpassing the total number of chikungunya cases reported in the month over the previous five years: five in October last year, 17 in 2022, 25 in 2021, and 17 in 2020.
