On Sunday morning, police detained more than 30 demonstrators near New Delhi’s Ladakh Bhawan. Some of the demonstrators are said to have been taken to the Mandir Marg Police Station, while the others were transported to various police stations in the district.

Sunday is the seventh day of Sonam Wangchuk’s extended hunger strike. Among other things, he has advocated for increased administrative autonomy in Ladakh. Jigmat Paljor, Coordinator of the Leh Apex Body, stated, “By 11 a.m., over 100 supporters were present. However, at about 10:30 a.m., the Delhi Police began closing roads leading to Ladakh Bhawan and deploying soldiers. At that point, there were about 50 supporters outside, and at least 100 others had come to show their support.

The police apprehended 38 supporters, however, Sonam Wangchuk was not among them and is now at a neighboring park.DCP (New Delhi) Devesh Mahla did not answer calls or SMS regarding the grounds for the protesters’ detention.  However, at about 10:30 a.m., the Delhi Police started shutting down roads leading to the Ladakh Bhawan and deploying soldiers. At that point, there were perhaps 50 supporters outside, and at least 100 more had arrived to offer their support.
