The Supreme Court on Wednesday lifted the bail condition that required Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia to appear before the investigating officer twice a week in the cases filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Examination (CBI) in connection with the alleged New Delhi excise policy scam.
The condition was removed by a bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan, who also stated that Sisodia must attend the trial regularly. We maintain that the condition is unnecessary and so eliminated. However, the court ordered that the petitioner attend trial regularly.
On August 9, the Supreme Court granted bail to the former Delhi deputy chief minister, stating that “there is not even a slim chance of the trial being concluded shortly”. As part of his bail conditions, the Supreme Court asked Sisodia to “report to the Investigating Officer on every Monday and Thursday between 10-11 AM.”
Sisodia has appealed against being arrested by the Criminal Background Investigation on February 26, 2023, and then by the ED 12 days later.
