A firefight between two groups of jeans wholesalers culminated in the injuring of a 22-year-old woman by a stray gunshot and the arrest of five men, all over a jeans consignment that was reportedly not returned to the owner who had provided it to wash.

According to police, Samad, one of the accused, delivered a consignment of jeans for washing to Munir from Faridabad about 3 to 4 months ago. However, Munir allegedly sold it to an unknown person.

“A month ago, Shanu, another accused, brought Munir other jeans (consignment) to wash. Three days ago, when Munir was in the region to return Shanu’s consignment, Samad and his companions grabbed it and demanded payment from Munir. Shanu and went to Samsad’s business on Saturday to get his stuff back. A scuffle erupted, and both parties began shooting at one other,” stated Northeast Delhi DCP Roshan Paweriya.

According to police, approximately 17 shots were fired during a gun duel between the two parties in Welcome’s Raja Market neighborhood in Northeast Delhi.  “She had come out to the balcony upon the first step of her home after hearing a crash of bullets smashing the shop shutters in the area,” according to her uncle, Mohammad Firoz.

A case was filed under several provisions of the BNS and the Arms Act. Police detained five of the suspects the next day: Samad (28), Shanu (30), Kasim (23), Hasim (22), and Mohammad Noor (22). They examined CCTV footage from the neighborhood and apprehended the five accused, along with the rifles and ammo used in the shooting.
