A 40-year-old father and his teenage nephew were killed, while his 10-year-old son was injured, when two armed men opened fire outside their home during Diwali festivities in Shahdara, northeast Delhi, on Thursday, according to police.

The victims, Akash Sharma, his nephew Rishabh Sharma, and son Krish Sharma, were celebrating Diwali when they were attacked at 8 p.m.A video of the event showed Akash and Rishabh, both wearing yellow kurtas, preparing to let off firecrackers when the accused arrived on their scooter. As Akash sought to enter his residence, one of the accused got off the scooter and shot him. Rishabh, Akash’s nephew, was also shot while running after the accused to stop them.

The three were brought to the hospital, where Akash and Rishabh were pronounced dead while Krish was being treated. “A police squad was deployed after receiving a PCR call at approximately 8:30 p.m. “The team discovered blood at the scene,” officials stated.

Akash’s wife said she understood the attackers and that they had a long-standing land dispute.

His brother Yogesh stated that his family was wrongly implicated last month when the accused fired rounds at their home, but he filed a lawsuit against them. He further said that the cops removed the recording of the incident from their phones and accused them of getting into fights. 

“Around 8.30 p.m., we received a PCR call notifying us that there had been firing at the Bihari Colony, and some persons had been hurt. When they arrived, they discovered that Akash, his nephew Rishabh, and his son Krish had all been shot. Akash and Rishabh have died. “In the preliminary investigation, we discovered that five rounds of bullets were fired,” DCP Shahdara Prashant Gautam told ANI. Police felt that the case involved personal animosity. Statements from the victims’ families will be recorded, and further investigations are underway, they added.
