Rahul Bhasin, 28, was detained on Monday for reportedly setting fire to his neighbor’s car after a lengthy parking dispute in southeast Delhi. Bhasin was detained near Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, almost 600 kilometers from the capital, officials said.
Bhasin, who owns an event management company and lives in Lajpat Nagar with his brother’s family, had a long-standing feud with his neighbor, Ranjeet Singh, the 48-year-old founder of the cultural organization ‘Jashn-e-Adab’, according to news agency PTI.
The conflict intensified after Singh filed a complaint against Bhasin on November 29 for causing damage to his Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. CCTV footage captured Bhasin bending the car’s rearview mirror and blocking the road by parking his Mahindra Thar automobile in the middle, forcing police to take the Thar and commence
On November 30, the situation became violent when Bhasin allegedly sprayed thinner on Singh’s car bonnet and set it on fire. The act, filmed on CCTV, prompted the police to assemble a team to search him down.
Using technology and human information, the team tracked Bhasin to Amethi, where he fled in his Honda Amaze. He was apprehended following a 600-kilometre chase and was transported back to Delhi for questioning.
This isn’t the first time Bhasin and Singh have fought. Earlier, on August 5, Singh accused Bhasin of breaking his car’s side mirrors, resulting in another FIR and Bhasin’s arrest.
Singh has also claimed that Bhasin and his companions routinely harassed and fought him and his family, often while under the influence of alcohol, forcing numerous interventions by local police.
