New Delhi: According to a Delhi government assessment, infectious and parasitic diseases including cholera, diarrhea, tuberculosis, and hepatitis B would account for about 24% of the total of approximately 89,000 deaths in the national capital in 2023.
According to the Delhi government’s Directorate of Economics and Statistics’ Medical Certification of Causes of Deaths (MCCD) Report 2023, almost 21,000 persons died as a result of infectious and parasitic disorders, out of a total of 88,628 institutional deaths.
The number of institutional fatalities from cancer and related disorders was 6,054 in 2023, nearly 12% higher than the 5,409 recorded in 2022. Slow fetal growth, fetal malnutrition, and immaturity were the leading causes of institutional baby fatalities (1,517), followed by pneumonia (1,373), septicemia (1,109), and hypoxia, birth asphyxia, and other respiratory disorders (704) Parasitic diseases including cholera.
The highest number of institutional deaths were documented among persons aged 45 to 64. According to the research, 28,611 (32.28%) men and women died in this group in 2023, followed by 26,096 (29.44%) people aged 65 and older.
