According to authorities, a man who is suspected of killing a 29-year-old woman in Bangalore, dismembering her body, and hiding it in a refrigerator before escaping to his hometown committed suicide on Wednesday in the town of Bhadrak, Odisha.
An unexpected setback occurred in the manhunt that the Karnataka police started in Odisha to apprehend Mukti Ranjan Ray, 30, for the violent murder of Mahalakshmi, 29, on September 21. Ray, 30, hung himself from a tree, according to the police, out of dread of being arrested. According to insiders, Ray allegedly confessed to the horrific act in Bangalore in a suicide note he left behind. Following a postmortem examination, the Bengaluru police received his body.
“We strongly suspect that he ended his life fearing arrest in connection with the Bengaluru murder. Bengaluru police had been closing in on the suspect in Bhadrak and Balasore districts for the last three days. We extended all necessary assistance to them,” Bhadrak SP Varun Guntupalli stated to TOI.
Ray lived in the Dhusuri neighborhood and worked in a Bengaluru clothes store, according to the police. The Bengaluru police are attempting to learn more about Ray’s village regarding his family history and other specifics.
According to Ray’s family, he arrived in Bhadrak on September 24. Early in the morning, he left his house and was discovered hanging from a tree in Kuleipada hamlet, a short distance away, according to police sources.
The woman named Mahalakshmi’s mother and older sister found her maggot-infested body at her Vyalikaval house on Saturday. G Parameshwara, the home minister for Karnataka, had earlier in the day stated that the police had got information about the suspect’s whereabouts in Odisha. “We have taken the case very seriously, as the murder has shaken the entire Bengaluru,” he said.
