Raghuram Rajan, the ex-governor of the Reserve Bank of India, stated that entering politics is not something his family desires for him. He expressed, “Despite my repeated clarifications, there seems to be a disbelief. My true passion lies in academia, not in the political act of baby-kissing. Considering my family’s wishes, especially my wife’s concerns, stepping into politics isn’t in my plans. Instead, I aim to contribute by offering guidance where possible.”
When asked about possibly joining the Congress party, he elaborated, “My goal is to provide input where I see government policies deviating, irrespective of my position inside or outside the government. That’s how I choose to make a difference.”
Regarding his advice to Rahul Gandhi and the misconceptions surrounding it, Rajan remarked, “The narrative that undervalues Rahul Gandhi is flawed. He is not only intelligent and courageous but also comes from a family that has endured tragic losses, with both his grandmother and father being victims of political violence. Engaging in public life after such personal tragedies shows remarkable bravery.”
“He has been proactive and insightful, especially during the Covid crisis, advocating for early action and the cessation of political rallies during the second wave, actions that were eventually adopted. While Rahul Gandhi may not have all the solutions, he remains a rational leader open to discussion and debate, which is often overlooked by his critics,” Rajan added, highlighting Gandhi’s readiness to engage in meaningful discourse.
